Installer programme

Kestrel has launched its Q Card installer training programme, designed to give installers formal training in fitting roofline products, legislation affecting the products they sell, and more specifically the benefits of installing products from the Kestrel range.

Simon Reynolds, sales and marketing director of Kestrel said: “The Kestrel Q Card programme offers installers the chance to earn an NVQ Diploma in Domestic Fascia, Soffit and Bargeboard Installation, and in some cases, the chance to achieve this qualification free of charge.

“There have always been courses for people interested in joinery or other aspects of building, but there isn’t a college course for people that want to fit PVC-U and PVC-UE building products. And there should be. Especially as insurers continue to push for clauses to be introduced in home insurance policies, encouraging home owners to ask for proof of qualification from anyone who carries out work on their home. If this change gets through and a homeowner tries to claim on work that has been carried out without proof of the necessary qualifications, the homeowner may not be covered. To monitor the roofline installation industry and ensure these certificates are being provided, we could soon be seeing a Fensa equivalent for roofline installers.”

Kestrel established its training programme for its customers in conjunction with Absolute Training Solutions, NW Training and the Glass Qualifications Authority (GQA).

Twenty one installers have signed up, and modules cover: health and safety; communication and confirming the requirements of the customer; the handling and transport of materials and equipment; preparation of the site; how to deal with asbestos; the installation of fascias, bargeboards, soffits and related products.
