Welsh glass firm hired for major discount retailer project
13th June 2017

Aluminium manufacturing and installation company AB Glass has been awarded a contract by Kier Construction to complete works for discount retailer Trago Mills. The project is based in Merthyr Tydfil, South Wales.

This will be Trago Mills’ first store in Wales, which is planned to open by Easter 2018. The retailer has three stores based in Cornwall and Devon.

AB Glass has been enlisted by Kier to undertake the installation of AA100 curtain wall screens, AA540 windows and doors, as well as AA720 and AA190 doors at the site, located at Swansea Road, Merthyr Tydfil. The contract is worth £900,000 to the Swansea-based company.

Design works have already been completed by AB Glass at the new store, with installation works currently underway.

This latest contract adds to a series of projects being undertaken by AB Glass in the South Wales region. This includes another project for Kier at the new University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD) campus in Swansea Waterfront, showing the company’s continued relationship with the leading property, residential, construction and services group.

Alan Brayley, managing director at AB Glass, said:

“We are really pleased to be working with Kier Construction on another major project. Our ongoing collaboration with Kier demonstrates the expertise and high quality service we are able to deliver on such significant developments.

“Trago Mills will be a great addition to Merthyr Tydfil and create hundreds of jobs, which is very positive for the region. We look forward to seeing the progress of the site as we continue with the installation stages.”

Jason Taylor, operations director, Kier Construction, said:

“Our partnership with AB Glass is highly valued, having reliable trusted suppliers is essential for delivering a quality finished product which our clients expect. We are delighted to appoint AB Glass who have a proven track record in high quality workmanship. AB Glass also respect our commitment to safety and ensure their staff understand and adhere to the same high standards that we work to on-site.”

AB Glass was recently announced as winner of the Business of the Year award and the Manufacturing Business of the Year award at the Swansea Bay Business Awards 2017.
