Kick starting 2015 with apprenticeship drive
13th January 2015
Building products distributor Magden is getting ready to roll out apprenticeships across all five of its branches in 2015. The commitment comes after the company announced it had recruited 13 new staff during 2014.
Laurence Hicks, commercial director of Magden, said: “We made a commitment to investing in staff because customer service has always been a strength for Magden and is something we want to develop further.
“The investment is already paying dividends both in terms of our service to customers and growth in the business.
“We feel very strongly about investing in young people and having recruited our first apprentice – Joshua Adams – to the Rotherham branch at the tail end of 2014, we now plan to recruit across all branches in 2015.”
Magden underwent a period of significant expansion in 2014. With a new management team at the helm, the company increased the number of product lines stocked across all branches and opened a new depot in Blaydon, near Newcastle.
“We have traditionally served installers with roofline and insulated glazing (IG) products, but moving forward our ambition is to be a one stop shop for all building plastics,” Laurence said.
“Over the past year we have added Kayflow underground drainage, Fitrite decking and decorative cladding to our product lines. We are now engaging with our customers to find out about other products they would like to see added to our stock lists.”
Two apprentices are expected to join Magden’s branches in branches in Bury, Birtley, Cleckheaton and Blaydon in 2015, while one apprentice will join 17-year-old Joshua Adams at the depot in Rotherham.
