OUTSTANDING BUT UNOBTRUSIVE BURGLAR PROTECTION
12th June 2012

New from building envelope and solar specialist, Schueco UK Limited, are the ADS 90 BR and AWS 90 BR ranges of security door and window systems. Identical in appearance to ordinary glazed windows or doors – and as easy to operate – they have a basic frame depth of only 90 mm but offer outstanding physical protection combined with excellent thermal insulation and weather-tightness.

Constructed from special multi-chambered aluminium profiles and equipped with enhanced security hardware and P6B security glazing to EN 356, these door and window systems provide burglar resistance far in excess of the requirements of Secured by Design.

Extensive official testing to security standard EN V 1627 Resistance Class 4 has confirmed that these systems are suitable in areas where 'a practised burglar anticipates a reasonable reward and is likely to be resolute in his efforts to gain entry ... and is less concerned with the level of noise he produces and is prepared to take greater risk.'

Schueco ADS BR inward- and outward-opening single doors up to 1450 mm wide x 2542 mm high and double doors up to 2690 mm wide x 2565 mm high, have all been successfully tested with full-height glazing. Schueco ADS BR doors incorporating combinations of side- and top-fixed lights have been similarly certified.

Testing takes the form of a series of static loadings, including 10 kN on locking points, together with a sustained 30-minute manual attack using an assortment of prescribed tools including crowbar, hammer, drill, bolt-cutter, axe and hacksaw.

Using the same test procedures, Schueco AWS 90 BR single turn-tilt windows up to 1678 mm wide and 2528 mm high and multi-lights up to 2512 mm x 1880 mm high, have also been certified as reaching EN V 1627 Resistance 4. The windows utilise Schueco AvanTec concealed fittings to give clean lines and the appearance of a standard window.

In addition to burglar resistance, a variation of these doors and windows also provides ballistic protection to level FB4 of EN 1522/1523. This means that whatever the level of perceived threat, the occupants of a building have the reassurance of unrivalled protection without the need to live and work behind bars or grilles.
