CE Marking will be mandatory from 1st July 2013 and CENSolutions, the test facility for the window, door and glazing industries, warns that the industry needs to do a lot more than simply talk about its arrival.

Mike Gaillard, Joint Managing Director of CENSolutions explains: “While some of us have been banging the drum for CE Marking for time now, it has only recently been picked up by other industry figure heads as a topic of discussion. But that’s all it seems to be. So much of what we read on the subject in the press explains what it is, i.e. the need to prove compliance with EN 1279, EN 12150 – EN 12600 and EN 14351, but not many of them – even the large industry representative bodies – are offering advice on what companies need to do. No-one is offering a solution. We’re going to need the industry to get on board a lot more than this if we’re going to meet the July 2013 deadline.

“CENSolutions was established to help companies make sense of all relevant systems, standards and legislation with which they must comply. We didn’t include the word ‘solutions’ in our company name just for the sake of it, as many others seem to be doing these days. We incorporated it because that’s exactly what we offer the companies we work with. In the case of CE Marking for example we offer a pre-CE Marking Assessment which does what it says on the tin. The Assessment ascertains what companies are already doing that would satisfy the requirements of CE Marking and what they have left to do. We also offer a concise plan of action to get them up to standard.

“Compliance with CE Marking isn’t going to be something companies can do at the eleventh hour and talk is cheap, so we need to act as an industry, and sooner rather than later.”
