Trade conservatory roof and frame manufacturer Skyview has just announced it will be increasing production capacity by over 50% on its windows later on this year, without an increase to its workforce, when it takes delivery of a new SBA2 machining centre from Haffner GB Ltd.
John Sewell, Skyview’s director explains the reasons behind the investment by saying, “As a forward thinking company, we wanted to invest for the future without necessarily increasing our workforce. Currently one man can cut 30 items per day but with a machining centre that same man can cut up to 90 items. Put simply, the machining centre gave us the answer we needed.”
Having made the decision to invest, Skyview needed to find the option that was right for the business. After assessing the market, John decided Haffner and its director Dave Thomas was the right choice. As John explained, “I’ve known about Haffner for many years and their reputation for robust, high quality machines was a major factor in us choosing them.”
Once the decision to go with Haffner was made, Skyview faced another choice: new or refurbished? Having looked in detail at a used Stuga Machine, the new SBA2 won hands down. John explained that the new machine was very competitively priced, especially when a part exchange option was factored in. A new machine also gave them greater peace of mind thanks to its comprehensive two year warranty. Haffner take control of everything including the software link which again saved Skyview on a considerable outlay of £12,000.
Not only will the SBA 2 allow Skyview to dramatically increase its production, it will also allow it to improve the quality for which it’s already renowned and allow manufacturing of complex products such as triple cruciform windows with even greater accuracy. Delivery and installation of the machine is scheduled for later on this year and the Skyview team is confident it will add a great deal of value to the business.
Of course, times are tough at the moment and John is aware that a substantial investment like this makes a bold statement. But he says, “Our philosophy is to work with the market rather than against it. By investing in this machine we can increase production without increasing overheads. This machine firmly demonstrates our commitment to the future.”
