Customade puts Atlas on the Map
11th September 2012

The Customade Group has expanded its portfolio with the launch of a specialist new business to manufacture aluminium conservatory and orangery roofs. The Group, which also supplies PVC-u and aluminium windows, PVC-u conservatory roofs, sealed glass units and high end aluminium folding and sliding doors, now offers the marketplace one of the broadest suites of products from a single source.

The new business - Atlas Glazed Roof Solutions Ltd - is fabricating the aluminium conservatory roofs at Customade Group’s headquarters in Gloucester. Atlas, which was formed after the Customade Group acquired the assets of BDG Group Limited of Lurgan, County Armagh, has more than 20 years experience in conservatory roof fabrication. The new business, which retains BDG’s former technical, sales and administration office in Lurgan, is already supplying roofs throughout the UK and as far afield as the USA, Japan and China. Well known industry figure Gareth Thomas is sales and marketing director and Winston Osborne is technical director.

Designed with aesthetics and performance as a priority, the competitively priced Atlas aluminium conservatory roof offers a host of features. Tests carried out by the BBA have proven that the Atlas roof is the strongest and most thermally efficient aluminium roof available, offering a 33% greater windload and 25% greater snowload than its nearest competition. It is capable of achieving a U Value of 1.5 w/m2k. The roof also combines clean internal sight lines with low external sight lines and provides unrivalled good looks thanks to its unique box section rafter system.

John Lightowlers, Customade Group’s managing director, said: “The launch of Atlas brings fresh opportunities to the market and has enhanced the Customade Group’s reputation for quality and innovation. Without doubt, we now offer one of the strongest and most diverse product ranges in the industry. From the supply of high volume, standard products to the more specialist, niche products which can secure better margins, our unique offering will satisfy any requirement. A true one stop shop for fenestration products, this proposition gives our customers a serious advantage in the marketplace.”

Customade was established in 1979 and fabricates the full Duraflex, Smart Systems and SAPA ranges of product. The £18 million turnover Customade Group, which employs 200 people, also includes two other businesses - Fineline Aluminium, which supplies designer architectural aluminium products with very slim sight lines, and Hourglass Seal, which manufactures glass and sealed units using Edgetech Super Spacer technology.
