GlassTalk 2012: New Format

GlassTalk, in its fifth consecutive year, returns in November 2012 (November 15th 2012, Hinckley Island Hotel) in a brand new format and set to tackle two of the most compelling issues the glazing industry has to face: the future of PVC-U against demands for greater sustainability; and the Green Deal and the role of the ‘Provider’.

The focus of GlassTalk 2012 will as ever be on networking, providing the opportunity to meet other industry professionals with common goals and interests. But this year the organisers have also introduced a new format in which delegates will discuss the topics presented as part of the programme and produce feedback for policy makers.

To keep GlassTalk fresh the organisers have created the new networking format to ensure new contacts are made amongst people with like-minds and similar focus. The new format promises to organise networking around industry sectors, hot topics and fast connections leaving delegates in control of who and when they meet.  

A completely new group discussions element is being introduced to allow people with like-minds and similar focus to discuss common goals for the industry.

Following the presentations by acknowledged experts, including representatives of the British Plastics Federation and an expert from an approved Green Deal Provider ReEnergise Finance, the speakers will be invited to sit ‘On the Couch’ for open discussion between guests and delegates.

The audience will then be invited to join discussion groups during which common objectives will be discussed. The format will ensure that common interests will be discussed without individuals ‘grandstanding’ or dominating the networking.

“There are a number of objectives we wish to achieve through the new format for GlassTalk,” explained Jon Twigge, director of GlassTalk. “Delegates may simply listen to and learn from the presentations made; but to gain the most from attending we want everyone to join in, to make their views heard and then to join together in a common voice, one that will have real resonance amongst policy makers.”

Morning Programme: The Future of PVC-U Glazing
Two key subjects have been chosen as the core for presentation, discussion and debate at GlassTalk 2012. The morning sessions will look at The Future of PVC-U Glazing against a backdrop of increasing numbers of local authorities and private homeowners that demand true sustainability in their properties. Working closely with expert speakers, including representatives from the British Plastics Federation GlassTalk 2012 will discuss PVC-U and Sustainability, looking at the future opportunities for the UK’s predominant framing material, but also the threats posed by customer demands for greater sustainability and apathy and unwillingness to change from within the industry.
We will consider the pros and cons of recycling post consumer frames, offering the experience of others in the real world and considering whether the industry has time to wait for legislation to force the issue, or if it should take the initiative.

And in the final discussion of the morning sessions, the opportunities and issues facing the PVC-U replacement window industry in conservation areas will be addressed and discussed, with advice on how planning and regulatory objections can be overcome.

Afternoon Programme: The Role of the Green Deal Provider
The future of the Green Deal is in the hands of ‘Providers’, a number of organisations appointed to ‘facilitate’ the implementation of the Green Deal; but just how are they reached and who makes the decisions at these apparently all-powerful companies? A representative of one of the original 22 Green Deal Providers ReEnergise Finance will tell delegates how it works from their point of view and if there are real opportunities to be had by the window industry.
The Government’s own Green Deal Provider Guide offers wide latitude and interpretation so the presence of ReEnergise Finance’s expert speaker will offer a rare opportunity for GlassTalk delegates to learn what is in it for them.

GlassTalk 2012 delegates will have the opportunity to hear real answers away from the spin-doctors and politicians and then to discuss the key issues amongst themselves and with the speakers.

Venue for GlassTalk 2012 is the four star Hinckley Island Hotel, located in the Midlands close to the M69 and A5. 

Delegate places are available on a first-come-first-served basis so early bookings are recommended.
