That’s ‘snow business’!
A stunning glass facade of Britain’s latest indoor snow sports destination features AGC’s Stopray T ‘all climate’ glass with a high performance toughenable coating supplied by glass processor, System 3.
AGC’s Stopray Indigo 48T dark blue body tinted glass met the project’s temperature and solar control specification. The correct indoor climate must be maintained to preserve the centre’s thousands of tonnes of snow in pristine condition.
A total of 700m2 of AGC glass was used in the production of sealed units for the snow centre with an overall U-value of 1.1 W/m2K. Units of approximately 2,850mm x 1,800mm in size consist of a 6mm Stopray Indigo 48T dark blue tinted outer pane and 6mm clear toughened inner pane. All the glass was cut, edged and toughened by System 3 at its main glass processing plant in Denton, Manchester before being made into sealed units in the company’s IG production facility. As an added value service, System 3 also applied Ritec’s ClearShield glass surface protection system to the outside of the glass to reduce cleaning and ensure the glass performs to specification for longer.
System 3 worked closely with AGC and curtain walling contractor, MB Glass, to meet the project’s specific performance criteria, said System 3’s Frank Hopkins: “Having had extensive experience of working with Stopray we offered a selection of sample products from the range for approval and Indigo 48T was specified as the best option. We also used the Configurator on AGC’s YourGlass website to compile performance data on the sealed unit options, which was very helpful and easy to use.”
Stopray Indigo 48T combines a 48% light transmission level with 8% light reflection and a solar factor of 29% in a 6-16-4 assembly.
