Vanstone called to Govt Building
Regs panel
10th September 2019

Certass chair Jon Vanstone has been appointed to sit on the Building Regulations Advisory Committee (BRAC), giving the body its only current representative from the glazing industry.

His is one of a number of new appointments to the committee, which advises the Secretary of State in England on Building Regulations and other standards for building design and construction.

Jon, who chairs both Certass Ltd and Certass Trade Association, says the appointment is welcome news given the upheaval around Building Regulations since the Grenfell Tower tragedy and the overall state of the construction industry.

“It is high time that glazing is represented at this level, so that our industry concerns, and achievements, can be shared at Government level and be considered properly with changes to Building Regulations,” he said.

“Glazing is such an integral part of a building to get right, so it’s only right that there should be a glazing representative within BRAC.”

Jon also chairs the Competent Persons Forum (CPF), Trade Association Forum (TAF) and the Leadership Committee for RoofCert, and Certass managing director Jason Clemmit and technical & quality manager Clive Gibbs are both members of the Chartered Association of Building Engineers.

Jon concluded: “Being part of such diverse committees, with representatives from a number of different sectors means that as an industry, we can learn from other organisations within the construction business to help build glazing industry standards.”
