Doncaster based fabricator Direct Trade has upgraded its conservatory package offering to include Smart Glass, the new high performance roof glass. Smart Glass comes in four colours –Neutral Blue, Aqua and Bronze – and two specifications for each colour, one that can achieve a U-Value of 1.0 and one that can achieve 1.2.
Steve Green, Managing Director of Direct Trade comments: “Smart Glass is the next big thing in the conservatory market, as it makes such a tremendous difference for the end user in terms of comfort, reliability and energy efficiency; and we wanted to make it available to our customers in order to give them a competitive edge in the marketplace. Consumers are increasingly moving towards glass roofs and Smart Glass is an excellent addition to our complete conservatory packages. ”
One of the key benefits of Smart Glass is its ability to control and manage the level of light and UV radiation. Special metallic coatings are built up in microscopic layers on the glass, and by tailoring the best combination of these invisible coatings, desirable elements are allowed to pass through the glass, whilst undesirable elements are filtered out or reflected back.
Many conservatory roof glass options claim to have self-cleaning properties; however this is usually a self-cleaning coating, which is different to true self-cleaning technology. Smart Glass comes with an invisible dual action coating to the outer face, which first acts by using the ultra-violet energy in ordinary daylight to break down organic dirt. Water droplets are unable to form on this glass. Instead, water ‘sheets’ down the glass, carrying the dirt with it.
Smart Glass units are filled with argon gas and include a warm edge spacer bar, enabling every colour to achieve a U-Value of just 1.0. Direct Trade offer complete conservatory packages with either the Global or Ultraframe roof along with a choice of Veka Halo’s System 10 or Rustique windows and doors.
