Diversified technology company 3M has launched an interactive training programme for distributors of its Industrial Adhesives and Tapes Division.
The three-stage modular programme has been developed for all levels of learning, from introductory to advanced and combines online learning techniques with hands-on demonstrations and laboratory sessions with 3M technical specialists.
Mike McCarthy, general sales and marketing manager of the 3M Industrial Adhesives and Tapes Division, explained: “We recognised that our distributors value our support in understanding 3M’s broad and constantly evolving portfolio of adhesives and tapes.
“It is crucial that our distributors thoroughly understand the technology behind our products and, especially, what they are capable of, so they can provide the right recommendations to the end customer and optimum results can be achieved. The training offers a distributor-focused approach and is designed to optimise the value and pace of the sales process for both the distributor and the end user.
“The programme offers a combination of product and sales tips and has been tailored for trainees at three levels – beginner, intermediate and advanced. The first module is an online product training module which can be completed in the trainee’s own time via the 3M extranet site; the second is focused on hands-on product demonstrations and sales techniques, and the third allows trainees to visit the 3M laboratories to really understand the science behind the products and gain invaluable, in-depth product knowledge.
“Our distributors can join the training programme at the stage they feel is most appropriate, depending on their existing knowledge and experience, and it can be completed quickly and simply.
“Trial sessions that were completed earlier in the year were positively received and we are anticipating that the first stage of training, which is launching this summer, will be well attended.”
