A WEEK TO REMEMBER

Lee Rimmer and Phill Warburton, Joint Managing Directors of Bootle based Specialist Frame PVC-U Ltd, completed their challenge to cycle from Lands End to John O’Groats in what they say was a ‘week to remember’.

As planned, the two cycled the route in just eight days and have so far raised more than £1500 for their chosen charity Stick ‘n’ Step, in Merseyside which supports children with cerebral palsy.

Phill says the week was a once in a lifetime experience: “We set out on the weekend of the Diamond Jubilee and as we passed through so many towns and villages decked out with union jack bunting, it felt at times as though we were visiting the longest street party in history.

“It was a real privilege to be able to really get close and appreciate the beauty and diversity of the countryside too – from the hilly wooded roads of the south west, across the barren moors of Lancashire to the towering mountains of the Cairngorms in Scotland.”

It was not all plain sailing for the pair though, riding without any support crew they sometimes struggled to find the most direct routes through towns and cities and as they neared the end of the ride were even faced with a ‘No cycles’ sign on the approach road to the Forth Road Bridge.

Phill says a young local lad on his bike offered to guide them but “he took off like a contender for the yellow jersey in the Tour de France and we only just managed to keep him in sight until the bridge came into view!”
