NEW GLAZING SYSTEM FROM HAFELE MAKES TERRACES AND BALCONIES 100% USABLE - ALL THE TIME!

New from stylish Hafele supplier Metalglas in Italy is a folding and stacking single glazed walling and window system called Balconglas which is designed to protect outdoor leisure areas from the worst that deteriorating weather conditions can throw at them.

Balconglas is not designed for thermal efficiency, Hafele’s Gary King explains, but to protect and utilise balconies, as the name suggests, and also any outdoor terrace area that is part of a domestic or light commercial layout like public access viewing areas at sporting and other leisure venues. “This is not a patio door system,” says Gary, who is architectural glass products manager at Hafele, “but is more for unheated areas or buildings not covered by Part L of the Building Regulations.”

The new top-hung sliding and stacking walling or window system is designed to run on tough floor and ceiling guides and state-of-the-art design by Metalglas has eliminated unsightly, untidy or inconveniently protruding stacking areas from the equation. Balconglas systems allow for the provision of a hinged access door or opening windows in each system.

Individual panels move silently and effortlessly on weatherproof anodised aluminium hangers. The last trolley hanger on each of the panels to arrive at the stacking station disengages from the top track at the end of travel, allowing it to pivot and stack neatly and conveniently to one side.

The maximum height of each panel is 2800mm x 800mm in width and is toughened for durability; glass panel thickness measures 8/10mm and each weighs a maximum 60kg. Balconglas, says Gary King, makes
weather-vulnerable leisure spaces 100% usable - regardless of what the weather is actually doing!
