Anglian Home Improvements the UK’s largest replacement window company, has taken delivery of a GED Integrated Solutions spacer line to produce Intercept Blackline Warm Edge sealed units for its popular range of windows. The deal follows previous acquisitions by Anglian of GED automated lead application tables that produce consistently accurate leaded panels in volume production runs. Replacing one of its existing lines, the horizontal Intercept line, easily capable of producing Anglian’s requirement of 2000 units per ten hours, is something of a departure for Anglian, which had always operated vertical lines to date. But when looking for a high volume cost-effective manufacturing process for WER sealed units the company, already comfortable with GED’s engineering quality and the level of support provided, took the decision to move forward with Intercept. It is expected that the line will be fully commissioned in a few weeks. After which time, according to Anglian’s Plant Director James Wilson, “Our experience with GED is that their lean-manufacturing efficiencies will no doubt reduce our production costs, save on wastage, and enable deadlines to be met on time. We have spent a lot of time evaluating warm edge spacer systems and when you add all the features together, Intercept Blackline stood head and shoulders above everything else.” GED’s President and CEO, Bill Weaver, stated: “The relationship between GED and Anglian has grown steadily over the past two years, and we were delighted when such a well established name first decided to become an initiator in the UK of our automated lead application technology. “We appreciate that Anglian has done their research with regard to warm edge systems, and very much look forward to growing with them. With market studies showing universal customer acceptance of GED’s Intercept Blackline, Anglian Home Improvements continues to lead the field in the UK. Along with our European Sales Manager Chris Wale, I can enthusiastically state that GED views this new partnership and exciting opportunity with Anglian as a real success story about to unfold.” GED Integrated Solutions is a multi-award winning US-based manufacturer that helped pioneer the concept not only of Warm Edge spacer systems through Intercept, but also, with its advanced production equipment and integrated software, of lean manufacturing, where every aspect of IG production is ‘tied together’ to increase IG quality and production volumes reducing operating costs and materials wastage. Intercept Blackline was launched in response to the requirements of the UK market for a Warm Edge spacer that offered lower production costs, high quality, neat appearance, and longevity – in the USA many Intercept IG manufacturers offer either a 25-year or Lifetime warranty against failure.
