Workers share wages for cancer fund
9th February 2016

Staff at CMS WINDOW SYSTEMS have raised more than £6500 by donating part of their wages every week during November to Beatson Cancer Charity.

The effort is part of a £500,000 appeal to help fund a wide range of patient and family support services, quiet areas and outdoor spaces at the new £22 million Lanarkshire Beatson radiotherapy treatment centre at Monklands General Hospital in Airdrie, which opened in November. This will deliver treatments to 1,200 people from across the Lanarkshire region every year, the area in which most CMS employees and their families live.

individual contributions were matched pound for pound by the company.

Driving the campaign was CMS apprentice Rachel Clark, whose grandfather has been one of the first patients to benefit from the state of the art radiotherapy treatment centre. Rachel said: “The Lanarkshire Beatson provides superb treatment and care as my grandfather and my family have seen first-hand, so it has been fantastic to give something back and get involved in raising money for the facility. The response from my colleagues has been tremendous, and I’m sure everyone wishes Beatson Cancer Charity the very best of luck in their future fundraising efforts.”

The fundraising campaign has also given Rachel the opportunity to demonstrate her organisational skills, which have helped to propel her into the finals of the Lanarkshire Business Excellence Awards 2016 - Apprentice of the Year.

Charlene Elliott, Head of Development at Beatson Cancer Charity, said: “We are incredibly grateful to CMS Window Systems employees for the huge support they have demonstrated by so generously donating part of their wages to our fundraising appeal. This is a truly inspiring way to raise money for the world class radiotherapy treatment centre.”
