Solar PV roof tiles avoid the look of panels
9th February 2016

A new roof-integrated solar PV solution has helped a renewable energy installation company to meet both the aesthetic and power performance needs of a large residential property project in the North East.

ADVANCED RENEWABLE POWER secured the contract for the installation of a new 2.8kW system as part of the refurbishment of a private property in Billingham on Teesside; however, the owner wanted to avoid the use of conventional, on-roof PV panels.

ARP carried out the full re-roofing of the house, with the interlocking Intecto PV tiles from Romag being used to replace conventional concrete tiles over a large section of the south facing roof area.

The lightweight terracotta coloured Intecto tiles are fitted in the same way as traditional roof tiles, with direct fixing to wooden battens, and sit flush with standard roof tiles to provide a conventional finish.

Mark Dunville, technical director of ARP, said: “This was the first time we have installed Intecto tiles, the project was very straightforward, with the re-roofing and tiling being carried out in exactly the same way as normal.

“There is growing demand for this type of system, with the unique combination of colour, architectural values and aesthetic PV generation properties of integrated tiles giving us the ability to offer a range of roof top options to meet the specific needs of individual properties and client preferences.”
