Silence from Kennedy’s Kairos
amid reports of redundancies and
closed order books

Brian Kennedy’s Kairos Group was in silent mode this week as retail brands were said to have stopped taking orders while staff at its Zenith base said the company had ceased trading and up to 200 sales and call centre personnel had been made redundant.

The £75million-sales group, which owns brands including Zenith, Weatherseal, St Helen’s Glass and Penicuik Home Improvements as well as manufacturing and installation divisions, could not be contacted by phone or email. Many of the numbers were redirecting calls to holding messages at Kairos or its Clearwin sales & marketing subsidiary.

The only division The Glazine found taking calls was Indigo Products, fabricator to the retail brands via the group’s installation company, Install Base T/A Job Worth Doing. Staff at Indigo said it was business as usual and no one had heard of any problems.

Calls to Kairos at its Cheshire HQ were being diverted to hold last week and yesterday. When The Glazine did get through earlier today a call back was promised and is still awaited. One national newspaper reports however that Kairos said in a statement it had stopped taking orders while ‘reviewing its options’.

The Kairos Group last year recorded sales of £75.8million with an operating loss of £475K. Indigo Products made £4.4m operating profit on £18.5m sales. Install Base turned over £44m with an operating profit of £486K.

Companies House lists Kairos, Clearwin and the retail brands as well as Indigo and Install Base as having Brian Kennedy as majority shareholder.
