Sharma confirms £3bn Green Scheme
to include windows
7th July 2020

Business secretary Alok Sharma has today confirmed that double and triple glazing will be included in chancellor Rishi Sunak’s Green Homes Grant scheme for England.

The scheme will make vouchers up to £5,000 available for households to upgrade their home insulation, such as cavity wall and floor or loft insulation, and up to £10,000 for poorer households.

Alok Sharma added in TV interviews this morning that of the £3billion available, the £2billion for private houses would include enabling households to replace double glazing or put in triple glazing.

The scheme, due to launch in September, will cover up to two thirds of the cost of approved projects, which would be quoted and carried out by accredited local suppliers. Further details may come tomorrow (July 8) when the scheme is announced officially.

The initiative was welcomed by the Glass & Glazing Federation, whose MD John Agnew said: “Naturally the GGF welcomes any positive Government initiative that will boost our industry, the economy and help the environment.
“We will though have to wait and see the full detail of the scheme and then communicate the benefits to our Members and homeowners.”
