WINDOW AND DOOR MAKERS OF THE FUTURE ACHIEVE SUCCESS
6th January 2015

Five apprentices at window, door and building envelope contractor CMS have successfully completed their Modern Apprenticeships and been presented with their certification from training provider The Vocational College.

The apprentices are the latest in a long line of young workers who have embarked on their careers in the building industry at the Cumbernauld based firm. CMS has now provided 50 Modern Apprenticeships in the last two years, formal vocational programmes which have enabled young people to build their skills whilst securing SVQ qualifications in the process.

John McCollah, Operations Director of the Vocational College who presented the apprentices with their certificates said: “With youth unemployment levels still higher than those of the general working population, the provision of apprenticeships by CMS is vital in giving young people in North Lanarkshire a positive start to their careers beyond education. There are few manufacturing businesses in Scotland who have shown a stronger commitment to apprenticeships than CMS and it is a pleasure to see their latest graduates progressing.”

Anna West, HR and Training Manager at CMS said: “It’s fantastic to see our latest apprentices complete their initial programme and we look forward to planning the next career development stages with each of them individually. We really value the contribution our apprentices make from day one at CMS and provide genuine career progression opportunities for those who are ambitious and wish to develop.”

CMS was recognised by the business community earlier this year in winning the ‘Excellence in Young People Development’ award at the 2014 Lanarkshire Business Excellence Awards. In total CMS now employs 195 people, an increase of 43 in the last 12 months.
