Frameless… seamless – Apeer unveils Lumi to Grand Designs acclaim
5th May 2015

Composite door manufacturer Apeer has burst into the window market with a radically different ‘frameless, seamless’ system aimed at the high end domestic sector.

Unveiled at the Grand Designs exhibition at ExCel London, the Lumi collection is immediately recognisable not only by its uninterrupted sheet of glass reaching literally from edge to edge of the window cavity but also its ‘high temperature fused ceramic colour border’ which can be seen in place of a frame but entirely covered by the glass.

Speaking from the show, Apeer Marketing Manager Linda Tomb said reaction to the system has been ‘phenomenal’ from trade as well as homeowners.

She added: “This is of course a contemporary product but we are not only seeing demand coming from contemporary new-build. The reaction from visitors here at Grand Designs clearly shows interest for restoration and retrofit as a contrasting feature to more traditional properties.

The construction of the Lumi system is as radical inside, where the triple glazing is bonded to an internal core of foam-filled reinforced glass fibre profiles. In contrast to the stark exterior styling, the interior frame is more conventional, including a choice of woodgrains as well as block colours.

The Co Antrim manufacturer says the Lumi system has been two and a half years in development and at a cost of nearly £1million. The entire system includes frameless windows, doors, entrance glazing, French and bi-fold doors. The bi-fold is based on thermally broken aluminium.

Apeer has produced manuals and videos for the trade and has built a ‘mock house’ at its HQ where trade customers will be given training on the specialist installation methods required for the product.

Managing Director Asa McGillian said of the new range: “I knew that if we were going to enter the windows market, I wanted to do it with a radically different product – one that would offer an alternative to anything else out there and would appeal to consumers looking for the kind of cutting edge design with which they could make a lifestyle statement."
