TAKING SHADING TO THE NEXT LEVEL
5th August 2014

Internorm’s I-Tec Shading, a self-powered solar blind, has been developed even further, it now offers an automatic function to ensure even more comfort and energy efficiency.

Boasting the ultimate in style, design and performance, I-Tec Shading is a practical sunscreen solution, with a motorised shutter integrated with a photovoltaic solar panel. As such, the blind can be operated without the need for an external power source making it the perfect option when electricity supply is unavailable; it is particularly suitable for refurbishment projects.

The integrated shading system uses light energy directly sourced at the window to operate the sunscreen. The photovoltaic module, controlled by a 3.7V motor, with a maximum width of 1289mm, can be adjusted to the desired length. The thin film solar cell panel, which acts as the blind cover and is integrated into the top rail, is installed inside the window system. If preferred, the motor blind, with eight programmable positions, can be battery controlled. The battery for the motor receives continuous charging during the day even in diffused lighting areas.

In addition to the option of controlling by a wireless remote control system, the newly developed automatic function enables the blind to be opened and closed automatically at sunrise and sunset, thanks to day and night recognition. This also prevents overheating of the rooms as it continually measures temperature and solar irradiation, closing the blinds before the room temperature rises too high. In the winter, again the automatic control coupled to the temperature control ensures maximising of solar gain. The system lowers and raises the blind and adjusts the slats to 11 alternate positions.

Thomas Hagen from Internorm comments, “I-Tec Ventilation takes efficiency to the next level in that the energy, which is needed and used at the window, is produced by the window through the PV module. It not only supports the exceptional energy performance of Internorm’s windows, but also contributes to better energy efficiency in the home through the use of PV, a renewable technology.”

I-tec Shading can be ordered with them already fully integrated into the window or equally can be retrofitted on existing Internorm windows which currently have manual blinds. The motor driven blind with wireless technology removes the need for an electrician at the installation stage, making it an excellent option for refurbishment projects, as often no power cables are available. Subsequently, installation costs are significantly reduced and energy costs can be removed, creating the ultimate system for any new or self-build project.

Additionally, the I-tec system provides a maintenance low option for homeowners. Cleaning is very limited and requires little effort. A micro fibre cloth used without cleaner provides a suitable option for a flawless finish.
