Keyless lock solution incorporated in housing refurbishment project
3rd February 2015

An innovative hardware specialist has seen a number of its AV2B battery operated automatic multi-point locking systems incorporated into a housing refurbishment project. Winkhaus worked together with its South Wales based customer Servicetotal, who have manufactured and installed a number FD30 composite fire doors –all of which incorporated Winkhaus’ Ecoframe and the AV2B locking system - at a retirement complex in Bristol that is managed by the Anchor Trust Housing Association.

This was for the second phase of the project, with the first phase incorporating a mix of Winkhaus AV2 Mechanical and AV2E electronic multipoint locks for a variety of different applications, such as apartments and communal entrances.

The AV2B is the latest addition to the market leading AV2 range of products. The system provides a 21st century keyless solution, which proved ideal for the project specifiers at the site, which comprises of blocks of top-end apartments that offer older resident’s independent living.

Estate Manager Jayne Eades, says that the locking system and new doors have made a huge difference to living standards at the site; and improved security:

Jayne comments: “The great points about the system installed by Servicetotal is the fact that when the door is closed it is fully secure without the need for the residents to lift the handle.

“Residents are also very happy with the remote control as this makes it easier for people that have trouble using their key to open the doors. It’s undoubtedly an innovative and efficient locking system.”

Justin Harris, Commercial Director at Winkhaus, comments: “AV2B is battery operated and key fob activated, no different from the way a modern car operates.
“It’s designed to offer a solution that has benefits for the fabricator and the home occupier. We’ve identified keyless locking as a growth market for us and this project provides an example of how a keyless and more advanced locking system can improve life and security for the end-user.

“I would also like to add that as ever, Servicetotal was a great partner to work with on this project; and incorporating our AV2B lock and Ecoframe into their thirty minute fire doors created a market first”

Superbly engineered and manufactured in Germany the AV2B lock offers “instant security “ by engaging  two high tensile steel hooks as soon as the door is closed. This reduces the risk of anyone trying to follow the home occupier into the home and also does away with the need for use of a key when leaving the home.

To unlock the door a remote hand held fob is activated which allows for the handle to be pressed down to open. The lock requires no hardwiring and is simply run on 4 AA Batteries. A wide range of architectural door furniture can be used, depending on application, in order to offer striking aesthetics.
