FD in race for life

Thousands of women pulled on their running shoes and braved extremely hot temperatures to take part in the Race for Life on June 27th 2010. Crowds gathered at Aintree Racecourse with over 2,500 runners taking part in the annual event to raise cash for Cancer Research UK.

TuffX financial director, Carol Duffy ran her inaugural 5k race alongside fellow TuffX employee Gemma Harding and friend Debby Townsend. The three who were spurred on by friends had all been affected by cancer in some way through family or friends.

The run was one of many being staged around the country and the charity hopes to raise £60million this year to carry on its lifesaving research into the disease. Carol and her team of runners managed to raise over £300 for the worthy cause.

Having two very young children, Carol had to train early in the morning, come rain or shine. She diligently trained for three mornings a week as early as 6am, and she feels this was hard work well rewarded having finished the race in 25 minutes.

Carol said: “It is vital people continue to raise money for this research. Seeing so many women running alongside you makes you realise just how many people are affected by cancer which is such a terrible disease and can hit you at any age. It was a fabulous event and brought everyone together which was a great feeling.”
