Anglian conquers Everest!
Anglian Home Improvements has officially conquered Everest.
Experienced mountain climber, Ian Ridley, received sponsorship from Anglian Home Improvements in order to fulfil a life time ambition to climb the world’s highest mountain.
Sponsored by Anglian Home Improvements, and raising money for the Intensive Care Society which aims to advance and promote the care of critically ill patients, Ian chose to go from the least popular side of the North reach following in the footsteps of Mallory and Irving.
Unfortunately, Ian’s dream of personally making it to the top of Everest came to an end when at camp 3, commonly referred to as ‘the death zone’, he was forced to abort the final stages of the climb suffering the effects of altitude sickness and latterly discovering he had contracted Hepatitis E from contaminated water.
A member of the climbing team took Ian’s Anglian Home Improvements flag to the summit of Everest on his behalf. Ian’s valiant climb raised a total of £3,638 for the Intensive Care Society.
Commenting on the remarkable journey Ian Ridley said: “Numerous people have asked me why climb Everest?, and I don't have a definitive answer. I suppose it is the challenge. Having climbed extensively in the Alps, I wanted to push myself further. Anglian Home Improvements kindly supported my efforts with an extremely generous donation of £2,500 enabling Anglian to truly conquer Everest.”
Melanie McDonald, head of marketing at Anglian Home Improvements said: “We are extremely proud of Ian and his amazing attempt to climb the highest mountain in the world, and of course we are delighted to be able to support such a good cause and naturally to be able to say Anglian Home Improvements have well and truly conquered Everest!”
