SUPER THERMAL EFFICIENCY
2nd December 2014

A Georgian style new build property set in the stunning surroundings of the Perthshire countryside has incorporated Andersen windows and doors from Black Millwork to achieve a modern home with superb thermal efficiency ratings.

Inver is a substantial new build property situated on the site of a former mansion that was demolished in 1959. Built by Log & Cedar Construction, the eight-month construction has resulted in an impressive, 250m2, super efficient property that is sympathetic to the heritage of the site.

Donald McInnes, Managing Director of Log & Cedar Construction, commented: “As a small family business specialising in bespoke timber framed homes, our reputation is very important to us. As such, we only use the highest quality building materials to ensure a top-level finish. With this ethos, we always use Black Millwork for our fenestration as its ability to supply a huge range of sizes and profiles, which meet modern thermal efficiency standards, are second to none.

“For this particular project, another important consideration was the sympathetic styling needed for the location. Steeped in heritage, it was vital that the fenestration fitted in with the Georgian feel and to this end Black Millwork’s classic designs were the perfect match.”

Installed at the property were 38 Andersen A-Series windows, finished in Dove Grey on the exterior and Pine on the interior. In addition to the dual finish, the A-Series of windows are the best performing and most energy efficient windows Andersen has ever offered, achieving U-values of 1.4 W/m2K.

Two French doors from Andersen’s A-Series were also installed at the property to maximise the amount of natural daylight coming in to the ground floor. The doors, as well as the windows, installed at the property benefit from extensive material, hardware and finish warranties and all were fitted with Andersen’s self cleaning glass and insect screens.

Donald continued: “Having worked with Black Millwork on numerous projects before, it’s been a pleasure to establish a relationship with a supplier who is so ready to help and always delivers on time. We are thrilled with the end result at Inver and won’t hesitate to use Black Millwork again on our next project.”

Thanks to the modern construction methods and quality materials used, Inver has achieved U-values of 0.14 W/m2K for the walls and 0.07 W/m2K for the floor, making it incredibly economical to heat. The heating for the property is supplied by a combination of closed, solid-fuel fires and an air-source heat pump, plus an array of solar panels to supply the hot water. Overall the property accomplishes an Environmental Impact (CO2) Rating of 91 per cent.
