REPLACE YOUR EXECUTIVES WITH APPRENTICES!How many highly paid professionals spend their time doing basic ‘administration’ work because they don’t know how to use technology effectively? Young people leaving school may need training in workplace etiquette but one skill they do have is computer literacy. Apprentices have recently felt the brunt of the recession. The Government and Alan Sugar are working together to drive businesses to recruit apprentices. Mr Sugar will appear in the new television advertisements encouraging businesses to take part in the scheme. Under the plans, under-25s working in 80 areas such as hairdressing can take a day off a week to learn about their trade. In an interview earlier this week Sir Alan commented that “too many young people get left behind if they are not academically gifted. It’s important that people amass experience and skills so they become experts in something”. This is a message that needs to be shouted loudly in the current economic climate. And is has! £140 million will be invested to deliver new and additional apprentices nationally in both the public and private sectors. In a recent poll conducted on behalf of Government, 80% of employers felt that apprentices make them more competitive and reduce staff turnover.
