CURVED PATIO DOOR SOLUTION FOR SCOTTISH MANSION

Balcony System’s innovative curved sliding glass and aluminium patio doors have been used in the extensive renovation and extension of an imposing mansion overlooking Scotland’s dramatic west coast.

The 77-year-old Ayrshire property underwent complete refurbishment, which included the building of a large ground floor garden room to take advantage of the magnificent sea views.

Balcony’s unique curved patio door system proved the ideal solution for the architect’s curved façade design. The extraordinary design of the façade spans 16.0m overall with a full 8.6m length semi circle and two straight 3.7m sets on each end. There are five curved sections of which two slide and three are fixed. At 2.25 metres high these allow in maximum light and uninterrupted views across the golf course to the Firth of Clyde beyond.

Project architects James Houston Architects specified the Balcony Visio Glide 100 extruded aluminium polyester powder-coated profiles with curved glazed units. The installation complements the 1930s character of the original mansion and the property’s new extension, complete with period tiled floor and precast stone outside columns.

“Balcony supplied the specialist solution we were looking for in terms of a curved design that could be opened up on a warm summer’s day,” explains architect James Houston. “They helped us with technical aspects and the whole installation went very smoothly. We had never seen anything like it before on the British market and it is certainly a system we would use again in the future.”

He adds: “The system impressed us and has delighted our clients, Mr and Mrs Moffatt who can enjoy the benefits and versatility of a high performance curved patio door system that can withstand the winter storms as well as make the most of the sunshine – when we get it!”

Balcony has invested considerably in a technologically-advanced, yet affordable patio door system to suit curved openings of all sizes, offering inspirational and creative opportunities for designers, developers and self builders. With virtually no limitations to what can be achieved for curved openings in any radius, any colour and any size, the system is ideal for both newbuild and renovation projects and allows for configurations of two, three, four and six panels in various sliding and fixed combinations.
