Veka head of commercial Khaleel Mahmood has won the the FIT Show’s ’30 under 30’ award.

A Veka spokesperson said: “What stood out about Khaleel wasn’t just his impeccable high standards; adept problem-solving skills; or an infectious positive attitude. It’s the fact that from the moment he stepped through Veka’s doors five years ago, he has approached every day as an opportunity to better himself, personally and professionally.

“Not long after Khaleel joined Veka in 2017, he began a whirlwind tour of the business. Rather than keeping him in the job for which he’d successfully applied, his manager decided to ask the business and economics graduate to take on a series of projects designed to test his leadership skills.

“The first saw him complete a major health and safety project, managing a team of experienced staff and a budget of £200,000. He rose to the challenge, delivering on time and under budget.

“He was then parachuted into the packaging department, where he devised a way of clearing a major bottleneck. From here, the lamination department, where to gain a better understanding of the job, he went on to shifts for four months, before helping during a period of restructure.

“Each new role has brought with it the chance to learn, and evolve, as both an employee and as a leader. True to Veka’s culture and values, Khaleel has seized these opportunities with both hands, demonstrating a desire to work outside of his comfort zone, while helping those around him fulfil their potential.

“Khaleel is as ambitious as he is dedicated and applied for the job of Commercial Manager in 2020. He is now Head of the growing Commercial Support Team.”

Khaleel said: “It was an honour to be nominated, let alone win, it’s humbling to be acknowledged by the industry for the work I do but none of that would be possible without the opportunities provided by Veka and the support of my colleagues”
