Barnsley FC legend Bruce Dyer helped local trade fabricator Euroglaze to celebrate reached its £10,000 fundraising goal for sight loss charity Retina UK.

Dyer, known as UK football’s first £1million teenager, was on hand to present the cheque after hearing how the Euroglaze team ran raffles, fun days, cake sales, and even a virtual John O’Groats to Land’s End cycling challenge to mark the company’s 40th anniversary.

Retina UK is special to everyone at the company because it helps to fund vital research into the kinds of eye diseases that caused managing director Martin Nettleton and his brother Simon to gradually lose their sight.

Martin said: “We carried on fundraising even during the pandemic because we knew just what an impact it was having on the income of smaller charities such as Retina UK. Nicky Park, our sales and customer service administrator, did an amazing job driving the whole effort and encouraging everyone to get involved. I’m incredibly grateful to her and to everyone who supported us – from staff to suppliers, customers and of course Bruce, and genuinely delighted to have been able to do our bit to help fund some potentially exciting new treatments.”
