NSG Group has announced it is to close its Pilkington merchanting site in Birmingham.

The site, one of 11 in the UK run by the company’s architectural glass operation, is due to close later this year as part of a wider restructuring.

A spokesperson for NSG Group told The Glazine: “Despite extensive efforts and the unwavering commitment of all of our colleagues, long-term market challenges mean we have had to restructure some of our operations and will close our glass merchanting site in Nechells, Birmingham, later this year.

“We have informed those affected and will do everything possible in the coming months to assist them, either by finding opportunities elsewhere within NSG or by supporting those seeking employment elsewhere. We have already contacted our union partners and will be working closely with them throughout this process. A total of 19 roles will be affected in Birmingham.”

The Nechells site does not manufacture but stocks glass manufactured by the company’s other facilities for distribution locally.

The company anticipates that the site will close by the end of June.
