A Teesside solar installation company has been issued a £90,000 monetary penalty notice after the Information Commissioner’s Office heard it made 126,016 unsolicited sales calls to TPS registered numbers over a four-month period.

Among the complaints against Stockton-based Solar Style Solutions, calling as ‘The energy efficiency team at Solar Style UK’, one recipient said: “I’m fed up of the interruptions as I’m in the middle of writing a thesis on advanced energy saving measures.”

Others said they had received numerous calls despite emphasising that they were TPS registered and asking the company to remove their name from the list.

The company admitted ‘a level of naivety’, according to the ICO, and said the leads had been bought from a provider in good faith.

It also said its call monitoring system had suffered neglect by previous owners and that it had since bought a TPS licence and had begun screening calls.

The commissioner noted that the company had some financial difficulties and reduced the penalty by £10,000 from a planned £100,000 as a result.
