‘Door to door’ selling forbidden under the latest Covid restrictions does also include sales visits within customers’ homes, the Certass Trade Association has confirmed. Surveys for a bespoke product are still permitted in the home however, but under existing strict Covid-19 procedures.

Chair Jon Vanstone says the organisation has sought clarity on the latest instructions, at first suggested by some to cover only doorstep canvassing, but concluded that organised sales visits to homes or workplaces are also forbidden  by the same rules.

He explained: “Over the Christmas break, updates were made to the tier system with the information specifying that: ‘Door-to-door sales should not be taking place, and sales activities should be conducted remotely (such as by phone, online, or mail)’. It should be noted that Government’s definition of door-to-door sales includes ‘the sale of goods and services to customers at:their home, their workplace or another individual’s home,’ so this applies to organised sales visits and not just ‘door canvassing’.

He added however that as replacement windows and doors are a bespoke product which requires a survey of the property prior to definitive quoting, surveys can still take place in the home, though Strict Covid-19 secure procedures should be followed.

Association members can access a Covid-19 Secure Procedures Guide from their members area.
