Birmingham-based aluminium window and door manufacturer Performance Window Fabrications, has launched a new division aimed at the growing modular homes market, and appointed Charlie Skipp, pictured, as business development manager with responsibility for the division.

The company’s Alex Sutherland said: “Modular construction delivers precision engineered, low carbon buildings. It is one of the most exciting developments of recent years and it is great to see more homes being built by this method, with thousands in the planning pipeline.

“It is being adopted by many housing developers and local authorities and we expect the market to continue to grow rapidly.

“We have established a modular division so that we can deliver bespoke, high specification products and our unrivalled expertise in aluminium windows, doors and rooflights, to the companies operating in this innovative sector.”

The housing industry has started to embrace innovation in the supply chain and modular, where houses are built in a factory, has the potential to play a key role in this revolution. In the past year there have been signs of it becoming a mainstream form of housing development in the UK.

For example, ilke Homes has greed a £30m investment with Homes England’s Home Building Fund and in February the Welsh government announced it is making a £45m investment in modular housing, in an attempt to increase development of social and affordable homes.

Based in Aston, Birmingham, PWF comes under the umbrella of Six-Twenty Group. It recently launched Fire Windows Direct, targeting the fire rated windows and doors sector, and Glass Roof Direct. Glass Roof Direct supplies thermal flat rooflight windows.
