Tyman plc, the parent company of UK lock and hardware companies Era and Zoo, says it is giving back the £2.3m it received under the Government’s pandemic Job Retention Scheme.

Darren Waters, Divisional CEO for Tyman UK and Ireland, pictured, said the group businesses had enjoyed a strong recovery in H2 while other sectors like hospitality, leisure and retail have been hit hard and need further government support to get through the crisis.

“The Job Retention Scheme served its purpose in supporting us to preserve jobs through the uncertainty,“ he continued, “For Tyman, paying back the money is the right thing to do.”

The group, which also includes Schlegel-Giesse and Access360, says the payment will be made in full before the year end.

The government’s Job Retention Scheme was set up for businesses to claim for some of their employees’ wages if they had put them on furlough or flexible furlough because of the pandemic.
